At once, when you go up the very steep driveway, the name - Monolith - seems puzzling. But, one look at the property and everything falls into place. Monolith resort is all rock - from the parking floor to the boundary walls to even the swimming pool! In its stone-and-wood architecture, the resort evokes the mountains. The beautifully built reception-cum-lobby is the entry point, which is like a machan propped up on wooden rafters with stone railings. Trees sway all around, casting deep shadows on the rolling gardens. The main attraction of the resort is the lake view. Geologists are of the opinion that the lake was created by a series of faults caused by movements of the earth’s crust. Surface drainage was thus impeded, leading to its formation. Monolith stands solitary above the lake giving you a breathtaking view of the valley encircled by the towering tree-clad hills.
Like most hill resorts in the Himalayan region, Monolith has its own peculiar captivating charm. An ideal place for filmmakers, Koi Mil Gaya and Baaz are a few of the hit movies picturised here.
